Exporting Used Tractor Trucks from China to Africa

Africa has emerged as one of the fastest-growing markets for used commercial vehicles, particularly heavy-duty tractor trucks. In 2025, China's exports of heavy-duty trucks reached 371,000 units, of which 149,000 were shipped to Africa—a year-on-year increase of 60 percent.

What drives this demand? Africa is in a period of rapid economic growth, with strong demand for commercial vehicles in infrastructure, mining, logistics, and construction sectors.Mining and construction activities, along with a surge in cross-border logistics demand, are key factors driving the used truck market.Additionally, local fuel quality in many African countries is relatively poor, making it suitable only for Euro II and Euro III standard vehicles—precisely the type of trucks that are being phased out in China but remain highly functional and cost-effective for African conditions.

Engine, gearbox, chassis, tires, and brakes must be verified clearly before the vehicle leaves China". After refurbishment, the used trucks achieved over 90% of new vehicle performance at less than half the price.
